Peter Glanville

Prior to becoming Artistic Director and CEO of Polka Theatre in 2013, Peter was Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the Little Angel Theatre for 8 years, directing acclaimed productions including ‘The Snow Queen’, ‘Jellybean Jack’, ‘The Magician’s Daughter’, and ‘The Tempest’ which played at The Swan, Stratford (co-produced with the RSC).

For Little Angel Theatre, he also directed Carol Ann Duffy’s ‘The Tear Thief’ (in association with the Royal Exchange, narrated by Juliet Stevenson) and Michael Rosen’s ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. His final production for the theatre was ‘Macbeth’ with Helen McCrory voicing Lady Macbeth. Peter also directed a short marionette film for the RSC’s production of ‘Matilda’ which is now showing in both the West End and on Broadway. Peter’s productions of ‘The Tempest’ and ‘The Tear Thief’ were both nominated for OFFIES for ‘Best Production for Young People’.

Prior to joining Polka and Little Angel, Peter directed over 40 productions and installations for Kazzum, a company he founded in 1989. Peter has also directed productions for the Rose Theatre, Unicorn Theatre, Tiny Dynamite, Tricycle Theatre, Dundee Rep and was Puppetry Director for ‘Moonlanding’ at Derby Playhouse.

Peter was also founder and festival director (2009-2013) of SUSPENSE: London Puppetry Festival (top ten UK festivals and ran the Actors Studio at artsdepot for 10 years.

For Polka Theatre , Peter has directed the early years Opera ‘Skitterbang Island’ composed by Martin Ward with libretto by Phil Porter. Peter also co-directed an adaptation by Phil Porter of Tove Jannsen’s ‘ Moominsummer Madness’, co-produced by Polka and Royal and Derngate. Peter’s adaptation of J M Barrie’s ‘Peter Pan’ for Polka Theatre received an OFFIE for Best production for Children in 2014.

More recently for Polka , Peter has adapted and directed ‘The Paper Dolls’ by Julia Donaldson (Polka /Little Angel Theatre co-production) and a musical version of ‘How to Hide a Lion’ by Helen Stephens, composed by Barb Jungr.

Peter has also co-directed two productions with Daniella Essiart for Scarabeus Aerial Theatre – ‘Depths of my Mund’ and ‘La Tempesta’

Peter is also currently developing ‘Hatch’ with Adriano Adewole, a Polka /ROH co-production.
