A.P. Thayer

A.P. Thayer is a queer, Mexican-American author based in Los Angeles who writes cross-genre speculative fiction.

In short fiction, his unique style blends horror, magical realism, and weird fiction, creating a genre he calls "nightmarism." His short stories and essays have been featured in Frivolous Comma, Dark Matter Magazine, Space Fantasy Magazine, Uncharted Magazine, the Los Suelos multimedia anthology, and several other publications.

For longer form fiction, he finds himself drawn to horror and dark fantasy. The grimmer, the better. He blends pulpy noir elements with literary prose and vivid descriptions in a way that may leave you confused, disgusted, and aroused. He also explores his heritage, his multi-racial background, and queerness in imaginary worlds.

He is an active participant in the speculative fiction community and works to amplify Latine voices in literary spaces. He was a co-host of The Genre Hustle podcast for all three seasons and has been a guest on others, like The Act Break podcast. He has also worked as a staff member at Constelación magazine, a bilingual literary magazine focused on Latine voices, and was the guest editor for Tree & Stone Magazine's Para el Pueblo inaugural issue.

When he is not writing fiction, A.P. writes blog posts, personal essays, and literary journalism on various topics, from self-identity and generational trauma to tabletop gaming, mental health, food, and more. Outside of writing, A.P. is an avid home cook and finds joy in hosting friends and loved ones for an elaborate meal. He is also a fan of tabletop gaming, reading, crosswords, video games, and Formula 1.

A.P. runs a Substack.

A.P. is represented by Helen Lane
