Sarah McManus

Sarah is a teacher and writer from Greater Manchester. After studying at Durham University for her undergraduate degree, she was awarded a scholarship to study a Master's, where she completed a dissertation on Theology and the writing surrounding the migration crisis. Inspired by her studies, she uses fiction to explore the deep link between identity and place, and what it means to belong to a community. Her debut novel, The Secret at No. 4, was published in July 2023.

She wrote her first full crime/psychological thriller during the UK 2020 lockdown, giving life to the themes she'd spent so long studying and contemplating. Giving a voice to seemingly voiceless characters is something she always returns to. Sarah grew up surrounded by and taught by strong women, who shaped who she is and who influenced the narratives she writes. Her own identity is entwined with being female, Northern and working class, and her passion is to tell stories that reflect place, identity and community.
