Al Campbell

Al Campbell’s critically applauded debut novel, The Keepers, was published in 2022 by the University of Queensland Press. Described in The Sydney Morning Herald as a ‘marvellously scathing commentary on inequity,’ The Keepers was nominated for both the Fiction Book Award and the People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award at the 2022 Queensland Literary Awards. As part of the 2022 Sydney Writers’ Festival, political journalist and television commentator, Annabel Crabb, selected The Keepers as her favourite book of the year. Their hour-long conversation can be found on the Sydney Writers’ Festival podcast.

Al’s short-form fiction and non-fiction have appeared in The Guardian, Overland, The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age, and Signs of Life – an anthology. A long-ago actor and voice-over artist, Al is an experienced and engaging public speaker, regularly appearing at literary festivals, corporate conferences, and academic events.
